MONROVIA, Liberia — The Government of Liberia has unveiled a package of initiatives targeting healthcare, agriculture, education, and renewable energy, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen public services and expand access to essential resources across the country.
The measures were announced Tuesday by Deputy Minister for Press and Public Affairs at the Ministry of Information, Daniel Sando, during the Ministry’s regular press briefing in Monrovia.
Over 600 Health Facilities to Receive Medical Supplies
Sando disclosed that the Ministry of Health has begun the nationwide distribution of essential medicines and medical supplies to more than 600 health facilities across Liberia.
He said the distribution is being implemented in phases, covering facilities ranging from primary healthcare clinics to referral hospitals.
“Some counties have already received their allocations, while additional phases are expected to begin next week and continue progressively in the following weeks,” Sando stated.
He said the initiative forms part of the government’s broader efforts to strengthen Liberia’s healthcare system and ensure that essential and lifesaving medical commodities are available to healthcare workers and patients.
Agriculture Ministry Staff Head to China for Training
Meanwhile, employees of the Ministry of Agriculture are expected to participate in specialized training in the People’s Republic of China from September 2–6, 2026.
According to Sando, the training will focus on technical knowledge, skills development, and best practices in agricultural development.
He said the program is intended to enhance the capacity of agricultural workers and improve the delivery of services within the sector.
Sando described the initiative as part of the Ministry of Agriculture’s commitment to strengthening its workforce through international knowledge exchange and professional development.
Education Ministry Advances New Primary School Framework
In the education sector, Sando announced that the Ministry of Education, through the Excellence in Learning in Liberia (EXCEL) Project, has completed a stakeholder review and validation of a new academic framework for primary schools.
The review brought together the Ministry’s technical team, county education officers, representatives from public and private schools, development partners, and EXCEL Project staff.
Officials say the new framework is expected to improve school planning and operations while providing schools with data and tools to strengthen education delivery over the next three years.
The initiative is part of broader efforts to improve learning outcomes and strengthen planning within Liberia’s education system.
Government Suspends Import Duties on Renewable Energy Equipment
In a separate move aimed at expanding access to clean energy, Sando announced that the government has suspended applicable import duties on qualifying renewable energy products, equipment, components, appliances, and related items.
He said the measure is designed to lower the cost of renewable energy equipment, attract private-sector investment, expand access to affordable and clean energy, and stimulate economic activities, particularly in rural and underserved communities.
However, Sando clarified that the duty suspension applies only to qualifying renewable energy products identified under the relevant tax schedule and properly classified under applicable Harmonized System codes.
“The government remains committed to ensuring that this measure is implemented transparently and that it contributes to increased investment in renewable energy and expanded access to clean energy across Liberia,” he added.
The government says the combined measures reflect its broader agenda of improving essential services, strengthening institutional capacity, reforming education, and promoting sustainable energy solutions across Liberia.
