MONROVIA, Liberia____The Federation of Liberian Youth (FLY) has declared its strong support for the Government of Liberia’s intensified campaign against transnational drug trafficking and the growing narcotics crisis affecting communities across the country.
The youth umbrella organization praised particularly the Ministry of Justice for pursuing alleged drug traffickers and vowed support for efforts to hold accountable any public official or individual found to have facilitated, protected, or participated in criminal drug networks.
FLY, however, stressed that the fight against narcotics must be guided by accountability, transparency, due process, and measurable results.
According to the organization, Liberia’s anti-drug campaign must go beyond arrests and drug seizures to identifying and dismantling the financiers, organizers, facilitators, protectors, and other individuals allegedly enabling criminal networks to operate.
As part of its contribution, FLY said it is mobilizing young people across all 15 counties to become active partners in the national fight against drug trafficking. The organization also announced plans to establish a National Youth and Security Advisory Council in partnership with the Ministry of Justice, aimed at creating a sustained platform for young people to engage with Liberia’s security and justice institutions.
In coordination with the Witness Protection Agency, FLY further disclosed plans to establish a National Youth Hotline, through which young people and members of the public can confidentially provide credible information and raise concerns related to the country’s drug crisis.
The Federation emphasized that no individual including drug cartel members, public officials, businesspeople, political actors, or persons of influence should be considered above the law.
“Liberia must win this fight and Liberian youth must be part of winning it,” the organization declared, reaffirming its commitment to supporting national efforts aimed at confronting the growing threat of illicit drugs.
