LTA Opens First Decentralized Service Center In Buchanan

BUCHANAN — The Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) on Friday opened its first decentralized service center in Buchanan, bringing telecommunications regulation and consumer protection services closer to residents.

LTA Commissioner for the Department of Consumer and Public Affairs, Universal Access, Hon. Patrick R. Honnah, explained that the center will handle consumer complaints involving data usage, billing, network quality and other telecommunications-related concerns.

LTA Board Chairman Clarence K. Massaquoi emphasized that decentralization must go beyond establishing offices, calling for local employment and greater opportunities for young people in Grand Bassa.

Grand Bassa County Superintendent Karyou Johnson welcomed the initiative as a historic step toward bringing government services closer to citizens, while a youth representative urged the LTA to expand training and employment opportunities for local youths.

Orange Liberia, represented by Sara Buchanan, welcomed the center and pledged continued cooperation between telecommunications operators, the regulator and consumers. She also highlighted Orange’s digital education initiatives in Grand Bassa.

The LTA says the Buchanan center will also support community radio stations with regulatory compliance and serve as a model for expanding its services to other counties.
