MONROVIA, Liberia — Information Minister Jerolinmek Piah has defended the performance of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s administration, saying Liberia has made significant progress in stabilizing the economy and improving the living conditions of ordinary citizens.
Minister Piah pointed to the availability and stability of essential commodities, particularly rice and fuel, as evidence of what he described as progress under the Boakai government.
“There came a time in this country when people were jumping over fences just to buy rice. There was a time when people used to wait in line at fueling stations just to buy fuel. They would put down jerrycans and gallons in line, go home, and return the next day, only to find that they couldn’t get gasoline. That’s not happening today after two years of this government,” Piah said.
The Information Minister made the remarks Monday during an interview with the Voice of Liberia, where he outlined what he described as key achievements of the Boakai administration since taking office.
According to Piah, the government has been pursuing reforms across several sectors, including public-sector and security-sector reforms, while also working to maintain economic stability and address the rising cost of basic commodities.
He said the administration is also focused on tackling unemployment and poverty while intensifying efforts to combat Liberia’s growing drug problem.
Piah maintained that the government remains committed to implementing policies and programs designed to improve the welfare of Liberians and create a more stable and prosperous society.
He further stressed that the administration has managed to stabilize the prices of fuel, rice and other essential goods and services despite economic pressures and the effects of global crises.
The minister’s comments come amid continued public debate over the performance of the Boakai administration, with government officials increasingly highlighting economic stability, reforms and improved access to essential commodities as indicators of progress.
Piah said the government will continue to pursue measures aimed at improving the quality of life of citizens and ensuring that the benefits of national development are felt by ordinary Liberians.
